MOONLIGHT HEADLAMPS DELIVER REAL LUMENS
THE LOWDOWN -
So many headlamps these days claim massive lumen numbers with low prices. At the request of many customers and the curious, we wanted to test our products against other industry-leading lamps
Moonlight Bright As Day 2000 lumen & 5000 lumen lamps
It is a possibility that companies are tricking their customers into buying these headlamps they claim are ultra-powerful and low-cost because the customer has no way of actually confirming how large the lamp’s lumen output may be. How could you tell if a lamp was 1.000 lumens? 5.000 lumens? 10.000 lumens?
Competitor headlamp claiming 9000 lumen
We purchased a similar, popular biking headlamp here in Norway that costs €105 (999NOK) to put it to the test against our Bright As Day headlamps. This model boasted 9000 lumens and claims it is the market’s best selling bike light. What we didn’t realize, is how different our results would be.

Moonlight Mountain Gear BAD 5000 lumens – Full Power – Camera Settings 1/6 sec, f/ 3.5, ISO 2000
We leave it to you, the reader and customer to decide which lamp creates the most light at full power. But in case it wasn’t obvious, below is a side by side comparison between the 9000 lumen competitor headlamp (left) and the Moonlight Mountain Gear Bright As Day 5000 (right), both at full power.
Left: Competitor’s 9000lm – Right: Moonlight Mountain Gear BAD 5000lm – Camera Settings: 1/6sec, f/3.5, ISO 2000
The competitor headlamp weighs 468g and retails for €105 (999NOK), while the Bright As Day 2000 weighs 109g and retails for €199 (1999NOK), and the Bright As Day 5000 weighs 140g and retails for €449 (4499NOK). Both of which can be found in the Moonlight Store. Between these headlamps, you get what you pay for. If you are willing to spend a little more, you are rewarded with higher performance, higher quality, and a lighter system. The trick is wading through which company’s lumen counts run true, and which do not. We will continue to test competitors lamps from all over the world with different lumen counts against our own. Stay tuned!
